What is cerakoating?

This is a ceramic based coating of which there are two different types: One which cures in normal temperatures and the other is a thermal cure coating. Cerakote offers very good abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance and hardness. It is harder and over 60% more wear-resistant than Teflon. Since it is self-lubricating, firearms require very little oil on it.  It can withstand temperatures of up to 648°C over extended periods of time, therefore making is suitable for weapons with high rates of fire.

Cerakote is a proprietary finish which employs ceramic (hence “cera”) particles as part of the solution.  This creates a hard surface that resists scratching and other abrasion. There are currently 31 colours available.
